According to a 2026 iSeeCars analysis of more than 950,000 five-year-old used vehicles, fully electric vehicles lost an average of 57.2 percent of their value over five years. However, that figure covers the broader EV market and does not predict how a specific electric exotic will perform.

Exotic brands haven't been immune to this trend. Some electric luxury models have experienced steep depreciation, but electric exotics are still too new for broad conclusions about their long-term resale value.

Why Depreciation Looks Different for Exotic Brands

Certain rare, historically important, or limited-production gas-powered exotics have held or gained value over time. However, many other exotic vehicles depreciate after purchase. 

Given the fairly recent technology of electric cars, electric exotics have not yet had the opportunity to prove their value in the long term. Buyers of six-figure vehicles also tend to prioritize the latest battery and range technology. As newer models periodically enter the market, their improved batteries, charging speeds, and driving ranges can make earlier technology less desirable.

Do Electric Exotic Cars Qualify for Federal Tax Incentives?

The federal government previously offered some incentives for buying electric vehicles with the Clean Vehicle Credit. Before the credit ended, the New Clean Vehicle Credit generally limited eligible manufacturer-suggested retail prices to $55,000 for cars and $80,000 for SUVs, vans, and pickup trucks. Those limits excluded nearly every new exotic vehicle.

Recent changes to tax law via the One Big Beautiful Bill (Public Law 119–21) ended the New Clean Vehicle Credit for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025. Therefore, someone who enters into a purchase agreement for an electric exotic in 2026 cannot claim the federal credit.

What Maintenance Costs Should I Expect With an Electric Exotic Car?

Although electric drivetrains eliminate maintenance such as oil changes, prospective buyers should consider several other possible expenses:

• Battery replacement or repair costs, which can be significant if damage occurs outside of warranty

• Specialized diagnostic equipment required to diagnose problems with the car

• Tires and brakes may wear differently due to the weight and instant torque of electric drivetrains

• Software and battery management updates may need to be handled at a certified facility

Exotic vehicles often require service from a facility with manufacturer-specific equipment and training.
